Understanding Tiered Content Access

Paid User

Content on the PATHS platform is organized into access tiers. Your subscription level determines which articles, courses, and resources you can view. This guide explains how the tiered system works.

Access Tiers

The platform has four content access levels, ordered from most accessible to most exclusive:

TierAccess
FreeBasic introductory content
RegularAll free content plus standard educational materials
PremiumAll regular content plus advanced and in-depth resources
EnterpriseFull access to all platform content, including organization-specific materials

Each piece of content is assigned an access level by the editorial team. Your subscription tier grants access to all content at your level and below.

How Locked and Unlocked Content Appears

As you browse articles and courses, content is clearly marked:

  • Unlocked content displays normally and can be opened, read, and interacted with fully.
  • Locked content shows a restricted indicator with the tier required to access it. You can see the title and description, but the full content is not available until you upgrade.

Unlocked content is fully accessible, while locked content shows the tier required.

Locked content displays the title and description with a prompt to upgrade.

Locked content is not hidden. You can always see what is available at higher tiers, so you know what you would gain by upgrading your plan.

Organization Access

If you belong to an organization (such as a hospital, hotel group, or corporate wellness program), your organization may have its own access level. The platform uses a "highest wins" union policy:

  • Your effective access level is whichever is higher — your personal subscription tier or your organization's access level.
  • You do not need to choose between them. Both are evaluated, and the more permissive level applies.

Example

If you have a Regular personal subscription but your organization has Premium access, you can view all Premium content. Conversely, if your personal plan is Premium but your organization is Regular, your Premium access still applies.

Discovering Content

Beyond browsing, PATHS offers AI-powered ways to find content matched to your goals:

Upgrading for More Content

If you encounter content that requires a higher tier, you can upgrade your subscription from the billing page. The paywall shows a blurred content preview with a list of tier benefits, a gold upgrade button, and social proof. See the Managing Your Subscription guide for details on how to change your plan.

AI Tutor and Access Levels

The AI tutor also respects access tiers. When generating answers, it only retrieves content that your effective access level permits. Upgrading your tier gives the AI tutor a broader knowledge base to draw from when answering your questions.

What exactly do I lose if I downgrade?

You lose access to content at tiers above your new level. Your enrollments, progress, and account data are preserved. If you upgrade again later, everything is restored immediately. See Managing Your Subscription for details.
